In accordance with recommendations of local officials, and county issuances, the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority is issuing a Fire Ban for Chatham-Kent County Conservation Areas which includes C. M. Wilson Conservation Area. The Fire Ban for the entire Eastern District Conservation Areas (Elgin and Middlesex Counties) which includes E.M. Warwick Conservation Area in West Elgin, Big Bend Conservation Area in Southwest Middlesex, and Longwoods Road Conservation Area in Strathroy-Caradoc, remains in effect.
The LTVCA wants to ensure our patrons that we are dedicated to leading by example in environmental protection with our community partners. Understanding that this will come as disappointing news, the majority of Ontario is now under a Fire Ban, once the bans are lifted we will follow suit in accordance with our Municipal/County Partners.
An open air fire is define as any fire outside of a building and include bonfires, campfires, burn barrels, outdoor fireplaces/chimineas or any other fires set in open air. Although there is some variation across Municipalities and Counties, dry conditions are consistent throughout. This fire ban is being imposed due to the extreme dryness of vegetation in the area and shall remain in effect until further notice.
If you discover a fire, it is crucial that you report the fire immediately to 9-1-1. Do not delay reporting while attempting to control or extinguish the fire.
