Message:
Currently, strong sustained wind speeds of 40 with gust of 50 km/hour out of the east-northeast are creating waves on Rondeau Bay and sending them onshore in the communities of Shrewsbury and Erieau. This has caused flooding in these communities with water around homes and even on the roads in some locations. Weather forecasts are calling for the winds to increase again this afternoon and remain strong enough to sustain the flooding all the way through until tomorrow evening.
People are requested to avoid the area if possible. Excess traffic can also interfere with residents trying to protect their homes and property. Unnecessary through traffic on flooded roads may result in further damages to private property from waves generated by those vehicles. People should take extra caution and avoid the shoreline. The waves can be strong and the shoreline slippery. There could also be hazardous debris within the waves and water which could be thrown onto the shore. Standing water can also present unseen hazards. Children and animals should be kept away from the water.
Officials will continue to monitor the situation and update this advisory if necessary.
This message will be in effect until May 20, 2020.
