Online – This Winter Webinar Series will engage both urban and rural individuals living in our watershed. Discover how we can all work together to create a healthier and more sustainable community in our unique, local environment. With the concepts, history and guidance presented in this series, we hope to inspire you to support conservation!
We begin on January 10, at 7pm with biologist and New York Time’s Best-Selling author Doug Tallamy speaking about Nature’s Best Hope. Doug has a message for every landowner, renter, property manager, and container gardener! Supporting conservation efforts can take place right in your own back yard. Doug will bring awareness to the fragility of our environment. He will inspire us to co-exist with nature, making our yards a beautiful haven for birds, butterflies and native plant species creating a more connected and prosperous environment.
Our next topic, on January 24, at 7pm will be Conservation in Action. Conservation is a community effort. The Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority (LTVCA) is eager to collaborate with landowners and farmers to establish wetlands, tree plantations and prairies, working towards environmentally sustaining, best management practices. We will speak about Species-at-Risk and invasive species. There is funding available to establish many of these projects and we will help guide you from start to finish. Ready for our annual native tree sale, now is the perfect time to plan a tree planting project with sales closing March 1st.
On February 7, Mike Smith from ReLeaf Chatham-Kent will be hosting the Greening Your Grounds webinar. Sign up for this event to receive a free booklet courtesy of the Rotary Club of Chatham Sunrise. This event will review stormwater management for the homeowner. Anyone, no matter how much space you have, can help reduce the impact of too much rain with rain gardens and rain barrels. Join us to learn about these and more!
Our last webinar will be on February 21, at 7pm and will discuss Where it All Began. We will talk about the history of the Lower Thames area and get to learn more about our significant watershed. This event will give us a deeper understanding of our roots and help us connect with the land around us.
These events held through zoom will require signup through Eventbrite at https://www.eventbrite.com/cc/winter-webinar-series-12129 . For each event you register for and attend, your name is entered into a draw for a $50 gift card to a local restaurant. If you attend all four webinars, your entries double! So please join us live and bring your questions for the Q&A! See you there!
