Experience History Come Alive
Battle of Longwoods Returns to Longwoods Road Conservation Area
Mount Brydges – On Saturday, May 4th and Sunday, May 5th join us as The Upper Thames Military Re-enactment Society (UTMRS) and the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority (LTVCA) present the Battle of Longwoods. Re-enactors come together to recreate the Battle of Longwoods and provide a glimpse into life during the early 19th century.
Longwoods Road Conservation Area will be open to the public from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day of the event. Come and experience life as a soldier, camp follower, Indigenous member and merchant. Step into an authentically recreated camp – hear the crack of the musket, the roar of the cannon, the smell of food being prepared over open fire – there is something for the whole family.
The weekend will include:
- Live action tactical and artillery demonstrations including an afternoon battle.
- Live period music throughout each day.
- Military Medicine Presentation – the Surgeon will demonstrate what types of procedures and medicine was available during this time.
- Camp Tour – Walk back through time with a guided tour of a historical military encampment.
- Mini Militia – Children experience what it was like to become a soldier during the 1800s. They will learn about a soldier’s life in battle, take part in simple arms drills, and marching.
- Children’s games and rope making will be available throughout the day.
- Take a stroll through Merchant Row – sutlers, merchants and artisans are selling items that can be purchased.
