Available to those located within one of the 10 municipalities served by the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority (Chatham-Kent, Dutton Dunwich, Lakeshore, Leamington, London, Middlesex Centre, Southwest Middlesex, Southwold, Strathroy-Caradoc, and West Elgin).

Our programs are developed to be engaging and interactive โ€“ they also meet curriculum requirements and Ontario Physical Activity Safety Standards in Education. If you would like to make an adaptation to one of our programs to focus on the particular needs or interests of your group, please discuss this with us during your booking process โ€” we are happy to coordinate with you!

โ€‹โ€‹Programs make use of both indoor and outdoor spaces. In case of inclement weather, certain programs can use large indoor spaces.

On-the-road environmental program offerings

1. Tool Making - Indoors - Year-Round - Mileage from Longwoods Road Conservation Area

Participants learn about trade and the necessities of life as they work in teams to create tools using some of the same materials that would have been used in the past (and some modern equipment weโ€™ve thrown in to help along the way).

2. Traditional Games - Outdoors - Year-Round - Mileage from Longwoods Road Conservation Area

Participants will work on their hand-eye coordination as they learn about, and try, some traditional games.

3. Traditional Pottery - Indoors - Year-Round - Mileage from Longwoods Road Conservation Area

Each participant shapes and decorates their own clay pot by hand using traditional methods. Participants will take their pot home, where it can be painted. An amazing art project!

4. Corn Husk Dolls - Indoors - Fall - Mileage from Longwoods Road Conservation Area

Learn about the beginnings of agriculture in Southwestern Ontario! The Haudenosaunee were the areaโ€™s first farmers and recyclers. Using every part honours the plant. Plus, hear one telling of a legend which still has lessons to teach us today.

Letโ€™s play a game! Learn about camouflage, cycles, food chains, species at risk, predator-prey relationships, and animal behaviours through a series of games that will get you out of your chair and away from a screen!

6. Winged Wonders - Indoors & Outdoors - Year-Round - Mileage from Longwoods Road Conservation Area

Life is for the birds! Examine bird wings, feet, nests, and beaks up-close. Find out about migration and seasonal behaviours. Listen for birdsongs, hear different types of bird calls, and look for evidence of birds during a walk around your school yard.
