Message:
There is currently flooding along Erie Shore Drive in Chatham-Kent. Standing water is building up on properties and water has made it onto the roadway in one location. However, significant flow across the roadway has not yet been observed. There is currently a Special Weather Statement in effect for strong, gusty winds today, and a Gale Warning in effect from the marine forecast. Weather forecasts suggest that wind speeds will not rise too far above current wind conditions. However, more water could build up in the area throughout the day. Weather forecasts suggest that the winds will drop off and switch to the west this evening and flooding should stop.
The general public is being asked to avoid the area to ensure that emergency services can access the area if required. The waves on the lakes can be strong, and the shoreline slippery. There could also be hazardous debris within the waves and water which could be thrown onto the shoreline. Standing water can also present unseen hazards. Children especially should be kept away from the water.
The previously issued Flood Watch remains in effect for other areas of the Lake Erie shoreline.
This message will be in effect through December 17, 2021.
