Message:
There is currently flooding along Erie Shore Drive in Chatham-Kent. Standing water is building up on properties and water has already made it onto the roadway at one spot. Forecasts suggest flooding will worsen overnight and during the day tomorrow. With freezing temperature in the forecast there is a risk that wave spray and flood waters will freeze, creating icy and dangerous conditions, including on the road itself. All non-essential traffic should avoid the area to ensure that emergency services can access the area if required. Forecasts suggest that the flooding will continue into tomorrow evening, with several forecasts suggesting it could last into Saturday morning
Again, people are being asked to avoid the area. The waves on the lakes can be strong, and the shoreline slippery, especially given the icy conditions likely to develop. There could also be hazardous debris within the waves and water which could be thrown onto the shoreline. Standing water can also present unseen hazards. Children especially should be kept away from the water.
The previously issued Flood Watch remains in effect for other areas of the Lake Erie shoreline.
This message will be in effect until the evening of February 6, 2021
