Message:
There is currently flooding along Erie Shore Drive in Chatham-Kent. There is water on many properties and around some of the homes. There is also water flowing over the road. Erie Shore Drive remains closed to traffic. Please avoid the area if possible.
The Strong Wind Warning for Lake Erie remains in effect. The strong southwest winds that are causing flooding along Erie Shore Drive are forecasted to remain strong straight through into Thursday morning. Most forecasts suggest winds speeds will also increase this evening. The marine forecast suggests waves could reach between 2 and 3 m in height on the lake.
Again, people are being asked to avoid the area. The waves on the lakes can be strong, and the shoreline slippery. There could also be hazardous debris within the waves and water which could be thrown onto the shoreline. Standing water can also present unseen hazards. Children especially should be kept away from the water.
Officials will continue to monitor the situation and update this advisory if necessary.
This message will be in effect until October 25, 2019.
