• Current forecasts suggest flooding could continue into the late evening or overnight.
Message:
There is currently flooding in the community of Lighthouse Cove. There is water around many homes and on several of the roadways. West winds have caused water levels to rise in eastern Lake St. Clair which has caused water to rise in the canals within the community. Water from the canals has spilled out onto the land. Along the shoreline, waves and wave spray have caused flooding in the rear yards of properties which has run to the front of the properties and is crossing over some roads. Some of the main roads in Lighthouse Cove have water running over them including Tisdelle and Melody. Island Cres has a significant depth of water over the road. Please avoid the area if possible.
Forecasts are calling for the winds to remain strong out of the west for the rest of the afternoon and into the evening. Winds strong enough to cause flooding could continue into the overnight period. LTVCA and municipal staff have been in the area this morning and for much of the afternoon. The amount of water flowing over the roads seems to change as winds increase or decrease. People should not assume that a drop in water depth over the road is an indication that conditions are clearing up for the rest of the day.
Again, people are being asked to avoid the area. The waves on the lakes can be strong, and the shoreline slippery. There could also be hazardous debris within the waves and water which could be thrown onto the shoreline. Standing water can also present unseen hazards. Children especially should be kept away from the water.
Officials will continue to monitor the situation and update this advisory if necessary.
This message will be in effect until April 14, 2020.
