LTVCA Watershed – Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority’s online campground reservation system is now live! We are pleased to announce that our camping season will run from May 20th – Oct 30th this year!
Big Bend Conservation Area is located just southeast of Wardsville – online reservations here at https://letscamp.ca/camps/big-bend-ca. Located on the largest meander of the Thames – a Canadian Heritage River, campers enjoy the beauty of a Carolinian forest and river campsites with a fully serviced washroom (no trailer dumping station). A rentable pavilion is located in the day use area. Also located here is a boat launch (access open May to November). There are areas for hiking, and fishing for yellow perch and pickerel, trails and open spaces for games and sports.
C.M. Wilson Conservation Area is located just southeast of Chatham – online reservations https://letscamp.ca/camps/cm-wilson. Information on C.M. Wilson is found at https://www.lowerthames-conservation.on.ca/portfolio/c-m-wilson-conservation-area/. Picnic tables are available throughout the park and organized groups can book the pavilion, or hold special events year-round in our rustic barn for family gatherings, weddings, or school functions. Visitors enjoy the children’s adventure playground, outdoor classroom, fishing, sailing, canoeing (rentals available), and nature trails. C.M. Wilson Conservation Area is also home to the Chatham-Kent Children’s Safety Village and the McKinlay Woodlands Memorial Forest. Enjoy the lake, a Carolinian forest, and natural wetland area in addition to the nature trails. Fully serviced washroom buildings and a trailer dumping station are available.
Last year, over 23,000 overnights were enjoyed by campers at Big Bend and C.M. Wilson Conservation Areas. Overnights at C.M. Wilson CA included 16,886 seasonals and 3,541 transient campers and Big Bend CA welcomed 1,136 seasonal and 1,922 transient stays.
LTVCA’s conservation areas and campgrounds will be following all current provincial and local health unit guidelines concerning COVID-19 safety.
